“Motors and engines”: The words are not synonymous. Their meanings are hotly contested. Each has its own cadre of supporters, staging simultaneous demonstrations, jubilant and intently oppositional, unfurling equally compelling banners, employing megaphones, bullhorns, trumpets, small drums, large drums.
1A) The broadest sense — an “engine” is “something used to effect a purpose.” Think catapult as a “siege engine.” Versus broadest sense of “motor” — anything that provides motive force to an object. So under these broadest senses, a gasoline engine is both an engine and motor.
1B) A slightly narrower sense — an “engine” is something that “creates its own power to do work” versus a motor which has power supplied to it. So a gasoline engine is only an engine because it takes gasoline and creates its own power to do work. Versus an electrical “motor” which takes electrical energy and uses that to do work. Under this definition, engines and motors are totally distinct.
1C) Then a series of definitions whereby “motor” is a subset of “engines” — an “engine” being — “a machine for converting any of various forms of energy into mechanical force and motion.” Compared to a “motor” which converts electrical energy into force and motion.
1D) The words are synonymous.
“Filters for…”: Less debate but still used with various degrees of breadth.
2A) A device used to separate one thing from another. Strangely there are no “official” definitions to this effect. Topic for further research, industrial filters and the Other.
2B) A more specific definition: “a porous article or mass (as of paper or sand) through which a gas or liquid is passed to separate out matter in suspension.”
Obvious applications: The hierarchy of engines is something that we like to give a nod to….Consider filtering types of engines. For a car that has multiple engines. It would need some sort of filter to determine which engine to use at any given time. The same could apply for a filter of filters. Consider also a motor for filters. Possibly used to increase the velocity by which something gets filtered. Filters hooked up to anti-filters (blenders).

Part II: Elaboration
Definition revisited: Merriam-Webster defines a “dish” as, “a more or less concave vessel from which food is served.” The concave aspect of the definition likely derives from its etymology (from the Latin discus).
Can vary in size without limitation: Dishes can be extraordinarily large and still be considered a dish. Consider very very large dishes, such as “The Dish” as well as quite possibly the world’s largest dish. Consider very very small dishes; dollhouse miniature dishes. Although note that dish sizes usually are loosely tied to the size of a portion of food for a human.
Varies less in terms of shape: On the other hand, shape is important and there is a point at which a dish stops being a dish and instead ventures into the vast wilderness of dinnerware. Notable exceptions: soap dishes and butter dishes, both which mirror the shape of their respective quadrilateral contents.
Concavity: Note that another aspect of concavity is that the dish has some depth. For food dishes, the purpose is to ostensibly prevent food from falling off the edge of the dish. Query whether a dish can have extremely steep sides with little or no flat bottom (V-shaped). Dishes without a rim (despite being circular) are platters (not dishes). Dishes that are convex are upside-down dishes.
Recommendation: The word “dish” should only be used to refer to circular flat-bottomed vessels. The word, “plate” should be used more broadly to encompass “dishes” but also include non-circular vessels. Takery sez, “All dishes are plates but not all plates are dishes.”
Materials: Any material acceptable as long as it is solid. Edible dishes OK. Actually preferred. Edible candy dishes made of candy; here, here, and here. Edible satellite dishes. When will “doing the dishes” be meaningless? With dishwashers and edible dishes now this really doesn’t make sense anymore. Obsolete. Candy dishes made for specific candy. Why not. Like beer glasses or wine glasses. Meant to accentuate the flavor of a particular candy.

These days accolades for the new release of a canonized indie rock act arrive before anyone has a chance to hear the album. Critics for the major tastemaking portals compete to be the first to best frame such albums, days before the masses have a chance to legally acquire a copy, and weeks before anyone can really gain a full understanding of an album’s worth. This now-ist urge to “get it first” / “hear it first” / “review it first” pried open a strange new wrinkle in spacetime this February when Pitchfork published what was essentially a pre-review of the long awaited “new” My Bloody Valentine album, m b v. In it the critic writes about the excitement and apprehension he feels just before he first listens to the new album. Yes: a review of what the album is like before you listen to it. 
To be fair, for certain people the arrival of m b v (22 years in the making, supposedly) is not unlike Brian Wilson finally completing Smile in 2004, or perhaps the discovery of a previously unknown work of Shakespeare. Over the last three months the reviews have mostly agreed that m b v is “very good” at least. Is m b v ‘s positive reception a magnificent comeback considering the distracted and now-ist nature of today’s indie scene or a fait accompli for a legendary band? As a fan who wanted MBV to just “stay awesome” and also a cynic skeptical of the 90s-nostalgia bandwagon and the pre-determined feel of many big-time reviews, I’ve struggled with why I’ve fallen for this one given the hype and clichés of My Bloody Valentine’s history. Certainly the Behind The Music prerequisites are all here: an unknown band creates a new sound, a masterpiece album (1991’s Loveless) and then acrimoniously dissolves at the height of its powers; the genius artiste Kevin Shields struggles in his studio for 22 years to finish the follow-up; the years of hinting that “the album was coming”; and now the 20-year nostalgia cycle’s current focus – the nineties. But then I realized that even in 1992 I felt a kind of nostalgia whenever I listened to Loveless, and that longing is baked-in to the My Bloody Valentine sound as achieved in 1991. The band’s musical techniques and representations create an aura of yearning and loss regardless of the year, and the overall sound evokes a nostalgia gripped not by a conscious loss of a time or experience but rather the feeling of being lost.

Takery has been stuck in the stock room at a Tim Hortons in Mississauga, Ontario for the last couple days and he asked me to provide a quick update with some awesome news:
