I’ve had a few thoughts about the Handbook over the last few weeks. The first is that it should be a collaborative process. With input from as many people as possible (including but not limited to people who actually know what they are talking about), I hope that the Handbook will take on an organic form of its own, living, breathing, eating, sleeping.

The first entry into the Handbook will be on streetlights. So, if you are knowledgeable about streetlights, e-mail us at dairyriver@gmail.com, and tell us what we need to know. Or, expect to hear from us. Or if streetlights speak to you in some special way that you can only express though art, music, dance, send us what you have.

The chapters will be timed. What I mean by that is, we will hopefully have a draft chapter up online within a month. They won’t be entirely complete. We’ll be tracking down leads for quite some time. Possibly an indefinite period. But a month will work to get the foundations set.

For streetlights, I envision an identification guide for those in the field to determine the general type, make, and vintage of streetlights.
